Some forty to fifty of us gathered Sunday morning before breakfast. Bobby remembered
talk at an earlier reunion, when he heard daddy's brothers talking about an incident at
the Santa Fe freight depot. A young Gleaves Owen and some of his buddies crawled
under the freight depot in Hereford and drilled a hole up through the floor and into a
barrel of wine. The wine in the barrel then leaked down into a gallon syrup bucket.
Gleaves and his buddies then spent a fine time communing there.
Jack remembered something that happened over sixty years ago. It then got
very quiet in the room as Warren spoke. He couldn't get the words out, but he spoke.
The memories were alive inside his beautiful head, but the plaque and knotted
synapses of Alzheimer's disease severed all connection between the memories
and the speech organs. Still Warren spoke to us all. On the third day of a quite
wonderful reunion of the Gleaves/Donnie family, Warren leaned forward and spoke
a pained, silent eloquence that blessed us all.
