[owen] Technological Woes

I'm glad you mentioned Google Earth. Isn't that fun?! I had not
downloaded it until I volunteered to run a couple of night jar routes
earlier this summer. I was to make ten six minute stops one mile
apart along each of two routes for which I was given just a starting
spot, and submit my data with latitude/longitude in decimal form for
each stop. It seemed like the perfect excuse for a fancy Garmin GPS
unit, but the good ones are pricey, and I decided to exercise some
fiscal restraint and use Google Earth instead. I could pick out
barns, fence rows, bridges and other landmarks well enough to
identify the stops. And after all that trouble, no night jars. But
discovering Google Earth made it worthwhile.

Will I see you in Ark in August?

June
