It's a beautiful morning in Minnesota, and it will be a beautiful afternoon in
Arkansas come Friday when the family of Gleaves and Donnie gather on
the southern edge of the Ozarks. I look forward to the laughing and crying,
the remembering and the forgetting, the hugging and loving. And I look forward
to Sunday morning when we gather just before heading off in many directions.

I've been reading a bit this morning in a book by Harold Bloom called WHERE
SHALL WISDOM BE FOUND? He finds it in the Bible and in Shakespeare,
in the ancient Greeks and in the essays of Emerson. Early in his chapter on
Montaigne, the French thinker who lived when Shakespeare did, Bloom writes:

"He asks us implicitly and incessantly: Are you thoughts of any value
if they stay within you? His answer .... NO. Thoughts are events."

I look forward to watching you hit a golf ball, make a word on the Scrabble board,
help one of us gimpy ones get around, smile, dive from summer's heat into
a cool Arkansas pool, and share a thought with us come Sunday morning.

See you Friday.
Love -- Lawrence
