Josh, I take first amendment issues very seriously. So I read the
article you linked very carefully. In the examples offered, Obama
did not seek to stifle the expression of opinions with which he
disagreed. He took issue with material presented as factual that
was not, that misled the public. He did what John Kerry did not and
arguably should have, respond to swift boat attacks. The man who
bought the Ayers ad for the American Issues Project was Texas
billionaire Harold Simmons, one of the main backers of the Swift
Boat Veterans for Truth who went after Kerry. Simmons, a McCain
fundraiser gave $2.9 million to the American Issues Project. The NRA
ad misstated Obama's position on gun control. I do not know, and
cannot find, what the Missouri example refers to.
This liberal in your family is bothered by persuasive tactics that
appeal to fears rather than reason. This article is a good example
of that tactic.
