Dan O. and Dan B. (and the rest of the riffraff out there)-
Good morning.
Yes, I think that there is an enormous amount of money that can be saved by
altering Medicare. See these articles for some ideas:

(As an aside, the privatization of a government run service has once again
gone awry. For those of you that think privatization is a panacea I would
ask that you do a review of our prison system and how the current
privately-run prisons are lobbying legislators to increase sentences, thus
fattening the pockets of the private companies.)
On the issue of medical service I have heard many on this connection say
that the doctor should have the final word. The doctor, in conjunction with
the patient, should provide the medical service, be it assistance for
end-of-life or abortion or any other legal, medically necessary procedure.
Do I think single payor is the answer, probably. Do I think that we'll get
there any time soon, no way.
Do I think that insurance companies have been acting God-like in the
provisioning of health care - absolutely, the evidence is clear. And, they
do it behind closed doors, without any oversight and for the sole purpose of
maximizing return on investment.
take care,
beatrice

G'day Bea,
As I listen to how we will pay for the new and improved health care system
it seems a large part of the plan is to save a lot of money from making
medi-care more efficient.
I am all for universal health care and I think everyone needs coverage but
I'm skeptical that the government can really save the kind of dollars they
are proposing from medi-care. Does this portion of the plan seem viable to
you?
Barney Frank came out and said the current plan as proposed will eventually
lead to single payer. Do you agree? Is single payer the answer?
There was an interesting article in our local paper on healtcare from the
head of our local Hospital:
http://www.ptleader.com/main.asp?SectionID=36
<http://www.ptleader.com/main.asp?SectionID=36&SubSectionID=55&ArticleID=248
58&TM=42228.96> &SubSectionID=55&ArticleID=24858&TM=42228.96
So many different perspectives on such a complicated issue. Is the looming
worker shortage being addressed?
Lu ya Dan O..........
